When Willa was just a few months old Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine asked me to photograph Willa's room. I was delighted to shoot for them and share the inspiration for her ocean-themed nursery. You can see the full feature in the July 2015 issue but I wanted to share a few images and details below as well as the full list of resources.
Before I begin I wanted to send along a big thanks to my friends at Fawn Shoppe where I purchased a few of my favorite things for Willa's room including the Kalon Studios pink crib as well as a few other little items. Thank you, Danni!
My INSPIRATION FOR THE ROOM:
"The ocean was the main inspiration I had for Willa’s room. I grew up on the East Coast but not terribly close to the ocean so living so near to the Pacific Ocean now is very exhilarating and inspiring to me. From there I chose colors and other little themes of things you might find near or in an ocean like birds, seahorses, whales, seashells, pineapples, a swimmer etc. It was a very fun, easy & loose theme to design around."
After a few weeks of pinning my favorite ideas for the nursery to Pinterest I created a little photo collage in Photoshop of how I was starting to imagine the room. I still love that rug but I ended up opting for something a little softer. Everything else pictured here made it into the room.
I have included a full list of resources for the gallery wall and other nursery details below. The gallery wall is still being added to and adjusted. It's one of my favorite details because it's so easy to move things around and every piece of artwork tells a story.
A detail of the gallery wall. The Swimmer image above was purchased affordably through Minted.
Willa absolutely loves this string of lights by Bright Lab Lights. I was able to choose colors that worked perfectly with the nursery.
My sweet girl was just hanging out on the floor while I photographed the room. She was as happy as a clam.
The cradle came in handy for the first five months with Willa as the ultimate outdoor play area. Now that Willa is on-the-move it's a pretty place to store her toys and stuffed animals at the end of the day.
Another one of Jennifer Murphy's creations is the little cuddling rabbit on the kids chair. The Billie Bear pillow by Ferm Living was purchased at my friend's kids store in Noe Valley (San Francisco) Mapamundi Kids. Willa was so delighted with the design on this pillow. It's a favorite.
Miss Willa was finally getting a bit impatient for me to wrap up the shoot. All in all though she was a perfect assistant. Below is my full list of resources. Thanks for reading!
